WE UNITE OUR WHOLE COMMUNITY TO SOLVE COMPLEX PROBLEMS AND HARNESS THE POWER OF PEOPLE TO CREATE A STRONGER NORTHWEST VERMONT
United Way isn’t just our name, it’s how we work. We unite people from all sectors to solve problems in our community. We believe that when we work together, we make all communities in our region stronger. The problems challenging us are complex; they are issues that no single organization or individual alone can solve. United Way has the networks, partnerships and strategic initiatives to improve the lives of our family, friends and neighbors. Real change is possible when nonprofit, public and private sectors team up to work together.
We inspire and enable action. UWNWVT has more than 12,000 donors, advocates and volunteers that believe in our ability to inspire change, leverage resources and harness the power of people to strengthen our community. We work hard to empower others to take action and offer their support. Get involved. We have opportunities for everyone.
We unite community leaders and organizations and we can’t do it alone. We invite volunteers, advocates and organizations from the broad community to address the issues that matter most. UWNWVT leads by supporting these initiatives with staff and volunteer resources that open doors, provide expertise and help facilitate communication.
We support innovative programs with proven success and honor our supporters with accountability. UWNWVT strategically invests volunteer resources and funds programs and collaborations between other local nonprofits with shared goals and measures for success. As a local member of the United Way network, we pay dues to United Way Worldwide for which we receive membership as a United Way organization and other benefits including training, support, ideas. We operate autonomously, make decisions locally and are governed by Board Members from our community. This allows us the flexibility to address the specific needs of the unique communities in our region while having the ability to draw on ideas and best practices from United Ways throughout the country, including United Way’s Standards of Excellence. These principles and practices are designed empower United Way of Northwest Vermont and 1,350 other United Way affiliates to share resources, best practices and measures for success. While our primary focus is Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle Counties, we also work closely with many other Vermont United Ways to share information and create a statewide network of support. Together, we make up United Ways of Vermont, a collaboration that operates and manages the Vermont 2-1-1 information and referral service.
